What a slap in the face it must've been. Her life was motivated by protecting people from discrimination and then she's faced with that very accusation. And even with the support from her office to validate her perception, forty years later she's struck by the enlightening Eureka moment.
I just read this section last night! Very surprising to hear about this event that I had never heard about and try to place it in context. Thanks for your discussion about it!
What an amazing person Libby was! Heather, your comments are also very perceptive and true. It is true that none of us are perfect and looking back on it forty years later and seeing a different perspective! Wow! I was very impressed with your thoughts about the incident!
Also, what an awful experience for Libby to go through, after all she did for social justice and anti-racial causes and de-segregation! I'm glad in the end that WiLPF gave her that award and that she got standing ovation for her speech. She so deserved that!
Understanding the perspective of new employees when they begin a new position. It’s possible new employees might feel a bit anxious. I think giving new employees a welcome basket and welcoming them on board.
Yes, "Eureka?!" What a powerful edit!

I’d actually like to learn more about it and also about what happened next.

Yes, it was a really difficult period for Libby and I think the award to acknowledge her work could not have come at a better time.
